While the hotel is modern and fancy, the service center is decidedly more humble.
Here, in this industrial building with its faded paint and a broken sign, boaters can purchase materials to repair their landlocked vessels. This is clearly a place where things get done. But we were greeted warmly and given clear, friendly directions to our campsite.

Lakehead Boat Basin has 30 RV parking sites, all of which are located on blacktop. Twelve of the sites offer the full gamut of hookups, including sewer, electricity and water. These sites are found immediately to the right after you enter the gated area, overlooking the marina. The other 18 sites, which include hookups for electric and water, are off to the left, past the hotel.

At the very end of the line is a thin strip of land jutting out into Superior Bay. This teeny-tiny peninsula offers stunning views of Superior Bay that one would never otherwise have the opportunity to see: Boats coming and going in both directions. The lift bridge in action. And, this would be a terrific place to view the fireworks. A daytime view of Duluth's hillside, as seen from campsite Since the Johnson clan owns the marina, RV park and hotel, they had the wherewithal and foresight to create some shared amenities.
Thus, there is a separate area with its own entrance found at the back of the hotel, specifically for marina and RV guests to use. It includes bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities.

Gratefully, this area was pristinely clean during our visit. The hotel also has a small convenience store.

At some point in the future, RV and marina guests may be able to get in on the continental breakfast served at the hotel. But, as of this writing, that amenity has not yet been negotiated. Lakehead Boat Basin is located at Minnesota Ave. While we were grateful for the spot with the prettiest view, we were parked next to a boat named Swamp Thing.
You never know who your neighbors might be. The owner-captain of this vessel was at the marina working on his boat during our stay.

While he politely asked our permission first, and was certainly entitled to work on his boat during his visit, the sound of a power sander was a distraction from enjoying the fresh air and pretty views. Nighttime was a beautiful sight from site The twinkling lights of the Duluth harbor were spectacular to witness, as was the Vista Fleet vessel coming home from her last run of the night, and passing elegantly under the Aerial Lift Bridge.
