Lunch date - O'Shea's Windsor Hotel
Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Pros Good sporting facilities Several lakes and dams within 2 hours of Dalby Easy and quick to get around town Lots of churches. Toowoomba is an hour away on a mainly one lane, pothole ridden hway. When you have small children there really isn't much for you to do other than go to the park.

There are 2 chinese restaurants, a few pubs and the RSL and Leagues clubs to go to. The price of petrol is about 15 cents more expensive than the coast and the groceries are dearer too. It gets down to below zero in winter the ays are fairly nice though. There are not many footpaths or street drainage so when it floods it really floods.
Water sits around for days after it rains and it gets quite boggy everywhere. There is a nice area along the river though. Cons Expensive. Recommended for Country Lovers. People from committees complain that they can't get any help but they don't encourage new people to join. Most are not open to new ideas. Nothing to do at night if you don't like pubs. You need a car because there is NO public transport. The basic shops are here and Toowoomba is only an hours drive for Myer and the bigger stores. There is plenty of work if you are willing to do it. Good for smaller town vibe, several pubs with some nightlife.
Employment can be hard to find. Pros Small town Vibe Lots of churches. Cons Expensive No child care. Very little work. Recommended for Retirees Country Lovers. Good range of housing choices and good price range. Most houses on nice big blocks and most have rainwater tanks. Easy place to live with some nice local walks and parks. Close to the Bunya Mountains holiday area with stunning rainforests, giant bunya trees and quaint village. Wide range of pub food and coffee shops. Plenty of sport and good schools.

Some flooding but Dalby came out of it pretty good compared to many other towns in Qld. Greens up lovely with rain, hot days, lovely nights. I'm booked in at the camping park, single unit so no shareing, plus it will be great to meet up with my mates from the Brisbane Free Flight Society.
I might not be Oz but I like to keep up on events and calling in at Dalby makes me think of why Oz is the can do country. Its there, you've got it.

Its all real. What more do you need - well just don't forget my booking for 27 December at the tourist park! PS There are so many people coming to this event, if you have any interest go along, my mates from NSW and NZ arepleading for accommodation. Wishing you all well in Dalby. Love Broone. Recommended for Professionals Singles Families with kids Retirees. Enough shops and businesses to keep you happy, but close enough to a city if you need more.
Friendly people and plenty of opportunity to get involved. Quiet neighbourhoods and nice houses with landscaped yards. Especially on the north western side of town ie north of Warrego Hwy and west of Bunya Hwy. Would recommend it for families. Playgroup, childcare, kindagym, PCYC, child health nurses, hospital and schools are all good. Not too much traffic.
Kids ride bikes in the streets and play footy in the front yards.
About This Drive
People say hello. And invite you to bbq's. I suggest living close to town and leave the car in the garage and walk to shops. Good services except public transport. Good climate.
Close enough to the coast for weekends away at the beach. Recommended for Professionals Singles Families with kids. Positioned on the doorstep of the beautiful Bunya Mountains, historic Jimbour House, wineries, Jondaryan Woolshed and other local attractions, Dalby has become a popular place to stay, relax and explore. The decade up to saw the State primary school enlarged to a central school , and a municipal electric power station constructed in ultimately supplied power as far away as Miles.
By the s, Dalby's population was nearly , and another phase of improvements ensued. New Council chambers and offices were opened in , an Olympic swimming pool opened in , replacing baths in the Myall Creek, and the Star Picture Theatre also opened that year. These town additions coincided with the final stages of eradication of the prickly pear infestation east and west of Dalby. Grain growing expanded in the prewar period; primarily wheat but also sorghum and small amounts of oats and barley.
During the war, a significant local manufacturing concern was born. Taking advantage of petrol rationing, Napier Bros Ltd made gas producers for use in motor vehicles as a petrol substitute. The company diversified into agricultural machinery in the postwar period. In common with much of the Darling Downs, the Dalby district was home to a significant dairying industry, but decline was evident by the s, with a halving of production during that decade. Beef cattle and sorghum production increased as dairying faded sorghum was Dalby's main summer crop by the s.
Dalby's position as the hub of the Downs persuaded the town council to mount a tourism drive, but expectations were not met. Rather the town has done better as a service centre. Dalby also staked an increasing role in education: a State high school opened in , a Catholic college followed in , the Dalby Agricultural College began in , and the Dalby Christian K school opened in Another State primary school, Dalby South, opened in In the late s and the s dryland cotton growing increased around Dalby, and Queensland Cotton commissioned a processing gin.
The town council and Wambo Shire operated a livestock salesyard. Dalby today remains a prosperous service centre, its Harvest Festival Cotton Week signifying the ongoing importance of agricultural industries. Dalby has a wide range of sports facilities, a racecourse hosting 12 meetings a year, a showground with a nearby pioneer machinery museum, an aerodrome, a hospital, over 15 churches, a civic centre for Dalby Regional Council , and State and Catholic primary and secondary schools.
