They carried their faith with them to a new land. St Patrick's is built of bluestone in Gothic Revival style. Mass is said regularly. Apart from anything else, the Cathedral holds the tomb of Archbishop Daniel Mannix, probably the most infuential churchman in the hisstory of Australia.

Gothic Church Dating Back To The gold rush delayed its construction but it was completed in in Gothic style. As most of the immigrants in Melbourne it was named after St Patrick, a good Irish saint. It is impressive outside but it is not the most elaborate church visited. Worthy of a visit.

Date of experience: May Retno Sujono wrote a review Mar Great one! Feel so blessed once you entered this one. The building look so stunning from a distance. There was a Holy Mass when we got there so we had to wait awhile before allowed to get inside.

Evey time, we have a nice chat about art. And last but not least, they have very nice latte in the cafetaria. This time the barrista made a great drawing on top of my latte! I told him : ' you are an artist '! As a regular visitor to Melbourne for over 30years it was a very pleasant surprise to discover Heide Gallery. The exhibitions in the 3 separate galleries were interesting. I especially loved the current exhibition of artist Erica McGilchrist.

It is held in the original home - now Heide Gallery 1. Lunch in the cafe was very very nice - yum! Hidden away off the Eastern Freeway, turn off on Bulleen road and turn right. Beautiful grounds filled with sculptures, and three buildings housing the art exhibitions. The park is free, and is a great place for a picnic, or a stroll among the trees. The small wooden house was the original residence, filled with art and old books. There is also a very good cafe, reasonable prices, to sit and enjoy lunch. Heide museum is a must see for anyone visiting Melbourne. It is perfect for families, trips with friends or for the solo visitor.
The 16 acres of garden are free and beautiful to enjoy. Bring a picnic and a bottle of wine, or enjoy a fine meal at Shannon Bennett's Cafe Vue. New sculptures have recently been added to the garden making the sculpture park a must see attraction of its own. The gardens are impeccably maintained, if you a Melbourne resident, I would recommend visiting at least once each season, for each season offers its own beauty.
Architecturally, Heide is rich in a history dating back to the originally farm house built in the 's, the modernist Heide 2 is always pleasing to view and the purpose built new museum always has one of the cities more though provoking exhibitions on show. You must visit, you always discover something new. This is a lovely place for a walk around gorgeous gardens or even walk down to the river. There are always interesting sculptures around the gardens. Cafe Vue is very disappointing. Big name with really poor service and average over-priced food.
